![]() If you have any questions or concerns about your OCT exam, please contact us today. If you have been diagnosed with an ocular disease, an OCT scan will also provide the information needed to monitor treatment. Having regular OCT scans will enable your doctor to compare the images from previous years to detect any abnormalities or thickening of retinal layers. If you are over age 25, or at risk of developing ocular disease, your eye doctor may recommend an OCT exam as part of your annual eye exam. As the laser scans the retina in each eye, you may notice a red line moving across your vision. The OCT will scan each of your eyes, while you fix your gaze on a green target. During the test, you will sit with your chin resting on a support. The OCT scan uses light waves to create an image, similar to an ultrasound that uses sound waves to create an image. This allows us to assess cornea, angles, and corneal thickness. These conditions include dense cataracts or significant bleeding in the vitreous.Īt Falcon Vision Centre, our OCT device allows us to do Anterior Segment OCT as well. Your eye doctor can map and measure the thickness of these layers. OCT allows your optometrist to see the specific layers of your retina through the use of light waves. It cannot be used with conditions that interfere with light passing through the eye. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging tool frequently used to take high-resolution images of the back of the eye, your retina. For example, it can detect changes caused by glaucoma. The OCT exam helps our optometrists see changes to the fibers of the optic nerve. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a technique for obtaining sub-surface images of translucent or opaque materials at a resolution equivalent to a low-power microscope. OCT is often used to evaluate disorders of the optic nerve as well. Ocular OCT retinal thickness map, right eye Time-domain OCT of the macular area of a retina at 800 nm, axial resolution 3 µm Spectral-domain OCT macula cross-section scan. OCT is useful in diagnosing many eye conditions, including: These retinal diseases include age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease. They also provide treatment guidance for glaucoma and diseases of the retina. This allows us to map and measure their thickness. With OCT, our optometrists can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers. The OCT scan uses a laser (without radiation) to obtain higher resolution images of the layers of the retina and optic nerve.

It is unlikely that you could get into scribe school if you were the son of a lowly farmer. First, you had to be a member of a wealthy family. The path of a scribe was not easy, however. Scribes could also go to work for the government (keeping track of taxes, building projects, floods, etc.) or for business owners (sales records, harvests, etc.) Priests needed to know how to read and write to keep the records of the ziggurat (a Mesopotamian temple) and to monitor the sun, moon, stars and planets. Learning to be a scribe was a possible pathway to the most powerful profession in ancient Mesopotamia - a priest. A scribe was (and is) basically a professional writer. These schools taught the skills of a scribe. The Sumerians, however, created the first known formal education system (schools). If you were the son of a farmer in ancient Mesopotamia, you would learn the ways of a farmer. Throughout history, most children's education came from their parents. That's not to say that they were not educated in some way. By that I mean that most people did not know how to read and write, were not familiar with the workings of government or law, and could not do anything beyond the simplest math. Letterbox mattes are not necessarily black. Usually, such matting of 1.85:1 film is eliminated to match the 1.78:1 aspect ratio in the image transference. Because the 1.85:1 aspect ratio does not match the 1.78:1 aspect ratio of widescreen video, slight letter-boxing occurs. On a widescreen television set, a 1.78:1 image fills the screen however, 21:9 aspect ratio films are letter-boxed with narrow mattes. In addition to films produced for the cinema, some television programming is produced in high definition and therefore widescreen. Ĭurrent high-definition television systems use video displays with a wider aspect ratio than older television sets, making it easier to accurately display widescreen films. Most television channels in Europe are broadcasting standard-definition programming in 1.78:1, while in the USA, these are down-scaled to letterbox. On television ĭigital broadcasting allows 1.78:1 widescreen format transmissions without losing resolution, and thus widescreen is the television norm. The image is produced by using a map projection-like technique to approximate how the picture might look if projected onto a curved Cinerama screen. The term "SmileBox" is a registered trademark used to describe a type of letter-boxing for Cinerama films, such as on the Blu-ray release of How the West Was Won. When HIT Entertainment in North America released the Wiggles’s “Cold Spaghetti Western” video in the beginning of this century, it was presented in 1.78:1 widescreen but in 1.33:1 letter-boxing format to accommodate full-screen TV's, which were still fairly common at the time of its release in the United States and Canada. Initially, letter-boxing was limited to several key sequences of a film such as opening and closing credits, but was later used for entire films. The first use of letter-boxing in consumer video appeared with the RCA Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED) videodisc format. The term refers to the shape of a letter-box, a slot in a wall or door through which mail is delivered, being rectangular and wider than it is high. The resulting video-graphic image has mattes empty space above and below it these mattes are part of each frame of the video signal. Easy whimsical drawingsĪs I already said, I love drawing from my imagination. I also added small stars around the bouquet to make it more interesting. Then, you add a small bow, and finally, you draw some leaves and flowers on the stems. What I haven’t done here is draw the stems inside the bottle as well, but you can do that so the drawing has more feel to it, and to make the bottle transparent (like I did with the vase in the photo below). Why not try drawing some of these? Here’s an example: I love putting flowers in nice and interesting bottles. Finally, add some tiny circles on top of the lines. Then, add some lines around the circle, but don’t make them the same length, rather make short, medium, and long ones. ![]() But when you combine them, you can really make a wonderful bouquet.įirst, draw a circle and a line for the stem. Play with lines, circles, dots, mini flowers, small stars, or spirals.Īrrows are so fun to draw because you can make different kinds just by adding new lines or changing the point of the arrow. With doodling, there’s no right or wrong, you just go with the flow. You can always take a black pen and do some doodles. Selecting a region changes the language and/or content on you’re a bit intimidated by drawing thinking you have no drawing skills, you can still draw something simple and make your art journal pages interesting. You can also make multiple sketched takes on a single figure to hone your sketching abilities. They are fantastic ways to create more dynamic drawings. Learn to convey movement through proportions and practice techniques like foreshortening. Ultimately, the figure drawing process is designed to help you learn to see living things in natural motion. It’s all part of regular practice: “You’re working on how the figure rests, learning your basic proportions, and getting a feel for drawing the figure,” says cartoonist Megan Levens, “before you start to exaggerate it and take those forms into foreshortening (drawing objects with less depth to mimic the perspective and angle of human vision) or create a really intense action pose.” One of the great benefits of figure drawing is that it pushes the illustrator to capture action , from the movement of the body to the balance between proportions to the tensions that the figure holds in different positions. Learning to edit the form you’re drawing relies on a bedrock of understanding anatomy. ![]() But if you understand its complexity through deep observation, you develop the tools to simplify and create visual shorthand. Capturing the intricacies of its shape is a challenge, one that many people spend a lifetime attempting to master. This architecture is the basis for movement and gives life to drawings.
